SF Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga
Why Postnatal Yoga?
Postnatal yoga (also known as postpartum yoga) helps you re-discover yourself in your new role as mom, and helps give you physical and emotional strength and energy to meet motherhood. We recommend you wait a minimum of 4-6 weeks after a vaginal birth and 8-10 weeks after a caesarian birth before beginning your Postnatal practice.
Postnatal yoga can give your post-pregnancy body the extra-special care it needs, helping to relieve neck and shoulder tension, supporting your back, opening your hips, tightening your pelvic floor, and providing core toning. Postnatal yoga teachers are compassionate, present and attuned, and can offer adjustments and suggestions specific for your body. Conscious breathing can additionally help to relax your body and mind and help you to center. Meeting other moms in postnatal yoga classes can also create a sense of community often absent in early parenting.
Finally, most Postnatal classes welcome mothers to bring their babies! These classes incorporate poses that include your baby and invite you to bond with your little one in a supportive and nurturing environment.
